Conflict management programs can help residents learn how to resolve conflicts in a healthy and constructive way, which can reduce tension and promote a positive living environment.

  • Identifying Conflict:  Helps residents to understand the types of conflicts that can arise in group living situations, such as disagreements over chores, personal space, or communication.
  • Active Listening:  Provides guidance on how to practice active listening, including how to reflect back what the other person is saying and how to ask clarifying questions.
  • Nonviolent Communication:  Introduces residents to nonviolent communication techniques, such as using “I” statements, expressing feelings without blame, and making requests instead of demands.
  • Conflict Resolution Strategies:  Provides instruction on various conflict resolution strategies, such as negotiation, compromise, and problem-solving.
  • Emotional Regulations:  Teaches strategies for regulating their emotions during conflicts, such as deep breathing, mindfulness, and positive self-talk.
  • Group Discussions and Support:  Provides opportunities for residents to discuss their experiences with conflict and receive support and feedback from their peers and program staff.
